Intense Workouts = Successful Results
Our philosophy on training is simple. If we are not sweating and grimacing at the end of a workout, we simply did not work hard enough. We believe in intense workouts for maximum results. When we bring a client on board we are going to make sure that they have a hard and varied workout program that will make them leave the gym satisfied and wanting to come back for more. Regardless of your goals, when you walk out of the gym, you should feel like there is no possible way that you could have worked harder during that hour.
Good form and safety is a huge priority for us. At the same time, we don’t want our clients to fear lifting heavy weights or pushing themselves to work harder and get that extra rep. We have seen that when our clients push themselves mentally and physically they achieve their greatest success, and that’s where we want our clients to be.
Find Your “Personal Best”
As with nutritional programs (see our article, “Nutritional for Optimal Fitness and Health“), there is no simple workout routine that works for everyone. Some people need to stick to lower volume and heavier reps (4-6 reps), while others respond to higher volume and moderate rep ranges (6-15). There are numerous types of workout programs out there, and really the best way to establish what is most effective for you is through trial and error to see what your body responds best to. What is extremely important is to always keep your workouts intense and to continue to switch your training style so that you will not plateau.
Write It Down
We highly recommend training journals to monitor your progress. This will also help you stay focused, ensure that you are always trying to up your intensity levels and not just going through the motions.
Sleep Is Your Friend
Along with intense training and proper nutrition, it is also vital to get adequate sleep. Remember that people don’t grow in the gym; they grow from getting 7-8 hours of adequate sleep every night and proper nutrition. In fact, after an intense workout you have actually broken down muscle fibers and tissues, so the only way to ensure recovery is through rest and nutrition. Without these two, your training results and physique will suffer.
“Weight” for Results
One final message from us to all the men and women out there that want to “tone up.” Stop spending hours on the cardio machines and start doing weights (pressing, dead lifting and squatting). We can’t stress enough how important this is; the best way to lose fat is to gain lean muscle so that your metabolism increases and you burn more fat throughout the day. You will not get toned doing two hours of cardio each day; weights are your best friend if your goal is getting toned. And don’t worry ladies, you won’t get big and buff if you lift heavy weights. As long as your diet is in check and you don’t use performance enhancing drugs, weight lifting will develop a well-toned, feminine figure that you will be proud of.
