Here is one of our favorite dishes that we highly recommend you try. The whole-wheat spaghetti and turkey sausage dish. This is one of those types of dishes that we will have occasionally or once a week on a Saturday or Sunday night (takes some time to make this). With this dish, you will get great complex carb and fiber sources with the whole-wheat spaghetti, zucchini, and mushrooms, some good saturated and polyunsaturated fats from the sausage and olive oil, and some decent protein from the sausage and spaghetti. This would make an excellent meal if it was higher in protein, so if you would like to tweak it, just add some lean ground beef, chicken, or fish into it. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
Makes enough for 3 people
2 Turkey sausage links
1 Pound Whole wheat pasta
2 Tbsp 100% olive oil
2 Cups of sliced or diced fresh mushrooms
2 Fresh zucchinis
1 Jar of low-fat pasta or marinara sauce
Add in spices that you like (basil, garlic, salt, pepper)
How to prepare it:
1) Slice 2 turkey sausage links and brown with 1 tbsp of olive oil on a skillet
2) Boil whole wheat pasta on medium-high (add in the other 1 tbsp of olive oil to water)
3) Chop up zucchinis & mushrooms and add to the skillet with the turkey sausage
4) After pasta is done boiling, drain, place into a pot
5) Add in pasta sauce and spices
6) Add in turkey sausage, zucchini, and mushrooms
7) Stir, mix and grub time!
