How’s it going Train Loco readers, today we’d like to talk about our awesome client Andrew Collin’s current training progress.
When Andrew first came to us he wasn’t following a structured-properly periodized training protocol. His old routine looked something like this:
Day 1: Leg press and shoulders, 5 sets of 8 reps
Day 2: Chest and triceps, 3 sets of 5 reps
Day 3: Back and biceps, 3 sets of 8 reps
Cardio here and there
So as you can see he was following a very basic training protocol. So we made some changes based off his goals, schedule, experience level, and physical capabilities.
We decided to start Andrew on a non-linear periodization protocol that included:
-More volume, but not too much since he wasn’t used to doing a lot of volume
-We increased frequency meaning we had him train each body part twice per week
-We incorporated some heavy lifting sessions to increase strength
-We incorporated a linear progression model for him to progress properly on squats, deadlifts and bench press
-We properly periodized a cardio routine around his training
Andrew made great gains on this protocol for 16 weeks, we then transitioned him into a more hypertrophy based phase for 16 weeks so he could take advantage of the strength gains he received from the non-linear protocol and thus induce muscle mass.
We are happy to say he is now on his phase 1 into to powerlifting mesocycle.
Andrew is a prime example of hard work, outwork mentality, no excuses only solutions attitude, gets his job done when he trains, and that’s why we call him the “A-Train.”
Super proud of him and this is only the beginning for the A-Train!
Cheers,
Eric and Chris Martinez
