If your clients start saying things like this, not only do you have them as lifetime customers, even better you have broken down the wall and have really earned their trust and established a genuine relationship with them. Which is something you should always be aiming for as a coach, not just getting them results and collecting their invoices.
Today, we want to go more in depth on this particular topic “Likeability” and why it’s so important as an online fitness coach.
We also want to save you the mistakes we made when we first started out and how to get ahead of the game amongst other fitness coaches that are not doing this and shooting themselves in the foot.
Because to be honest, if you increase your “likeability” as an online fitness coach, by default your client retention will be higher, your clients will refer you, and thus your income will go up.
Sit back, relax, take out a note pad and here are our 3 Ways to Increase your Likeability as an Online Fitness Coach.
1. Become Genuinely Interested in your Clients
This is #1 because it is so important, and we cannot understand why people are not more interested in their clients. How do you do this? Very simple, you ask more questions.
Literally ask questions such as:
- How was your weekend?
- What do you like doing for fun?
- How are your kids, family, significant others?
- What’s your favorite sport, team, hobbies, the list goes on
Once you have asked more questions your clients see that you actually care about them as people and not just their fitness journeys. Even better to break the ice, answer all these questions so they know more about you and get some confidence to be more vulnerable and share their interests.
2. Be a Great Listener During Calls, Videos, and Updates
Listen more, talk less! Literally we mean this. Don’t be that coach that is multi-tasking, checking their phone, or not paying attention when communicating with your clients. As soon as this happens you slowly miss small details from your clients and they will spot this out over time and move onto another coach that can listen.
Some tips to do this are:
- Put your phone on silent
- Take off all distracting notifications on your phone
- Close all distracting tabs on your lap top
- Take notes during the update to make sure you answer everything
The art of effective listening is essential to clear communication, and clear communication is necessary to management success. We promise you if you become a better listener you will gain more respect, improve relationships, and be a better leader.
3. Make your Client Feel Important, But Do It Sincerely
Something we highly recommend you try doing is giving your clients a small gift upon signing up for your coaching services. We call this “The Power of Gift-ology!”
Why? Because giving a gift is something memorable and will separate you from all the others coaches out there. It does not have to be something expensive, it’s the thought that counts here and makes that person feel welcomed, important, and a part of something awesome.
Another way of going about this is giving your clients actual birthday cards, yes, go buy a $5 card, write a nice message, and mail it to them. You could also send a post card if you are traveling so they feel a part of the travel experience.
This is so powerful, and they will appreciate it so much, share it on social media, and refer you to their contacts 😊
